What are the pros? abundance of blooms
What are the cons? took a while to flower
I grew nasturtium for the first time this year. Grew them in hanging baskets on my front porch (facing East.) Mostly sunny, but they seemed to enjoy the partial shade as well. Watered every other day. These Alaska Red Shades are gorgeous, simply gorgeous, to the point I will probably grow them from now on in hanging baskets on the front porch. The Red Shades bloomed much more often than the traditional orange and yellow ones that I also grew. A very cheerful flower I thought. It did take them a while to bloom at first, but once they started it has been non-stop flowering from mid summer on until now- almost October.

What are the pros? Beautiful plant
What are the cons? the plant seems small though
This is a beautiful plant. It looks exact same as the profile picture on this page. It germinated well and the flower is blossoming right now. I love it~! I highly recommend this seed package. I bought this to eat the flower as salad but can't do it. It's just too pretty to eat.

What are the pros? Great color
What are the cons? sluggish germination
I decided to try these for the hanging baskets in front of my house (facing south). I had been using petunias but the bold red colors tend to be hybrids and I wanted to be able to save seeds. These flowered well over the summer, but needed to be watered daily. If I didn't water for a day or two, then i'd have to wait a week or so to get flowers again. That's where have the attractive variagated foliage was a bonus. I have hummingbird feeders but the hummingbirds definitely preferred the flowers over the sugar water and would visit them first. I will definitely be planting these again.
