Never buy onion sets again!.....This incredible heirloom onion was shared with Baker Creek Seeds by Amanda Hershberger of Northern Indiana who remembers helping her Grandmother plant and harvest them in the 1950's. Her Grandmother originally received her start from a friend in Kosciusko County Indiana. The sweetly mild flavor is just right for those who don't like the overpowering onion flavor of some varieties...and the scapes are very sweet too so be sure to harvest and use those in your fresh Spring salads. We can only ship these bulbs within the U.S. Multiplier onions (planted in fall to overwinter or in early spring) produce clusters of about 5 to 9 bulbs that are 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter containing cloves which can then be divided, using some for food and keeping some for seed. The donor commented that it is a "tight" little onion...."not very juicy" and that she once successfully planted seed stock that was harvested 2 years prior! Amanda has grown and shared this wonderful onion with friends and neighbors in Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan where it has grown quite well. Our crop here in Southern Missouri was very heavy yielding. Thanks goes to Ms. Hershberger for introducing this wonderful heirloom gem to us. Very limited supply for 2017! Minimum of 10 cloves per pack for just $7.50

Review:

I never liked them as well as regular onions or green onions but they were good. My mother and others in the area we lived in Kentucky always grew them and they would cover them with straw in late October and then use them during the winter. My mother always called them Winter Onions and she kept starts of them and would replant whenever we moved but eventually we lost the starts somehow and I never knew where to find them again.
