Exclusive listing with Baker Creek! Collected in Chacas, Peru by the late pepper historian Jean Andrews. This landrace traces its ancestry to cucumbers brought from Spain in the 1500s. It's also known as Pepino Criollo Chacasino or Ancashino. It has been carefully selected for its resistance to pests and mildew. Grown in the cool climate of the high Andes, this cucumber is especially suited to cooler parts of the US and will remain productive all season if grown on trellises. The cucumbers are best when harvested 6 inches long.

What are the pros? Mildew-resistant

What are the cons? Thick-skinned

Review:

I grew four plants and three of them survived long enough to produce. At first, they grew rapidly and liked to go along their trellis. They were much more mildew-resistant than previous varieties that I have grown, but they still contracted a bit of mildew on a few occasions. However, I was able to treat the mildew to make it go away for a while (which didn't happen with other varieties). They were not prolific producers by any means, but I got maybe 15 good cucumbers from the 3 plants. Several of the cucumbers would turn yellow and die on the vine, while others would stay perfectly healthy. The cucumbers were tasty, but had very thick skins so I had to cut peel them before eating.

What are the pros? Great taste and easy to grow.

What are the cons? Nothing so far.

Review:

These cukes grew super fast and love climbing on our netting and sunflowers! These get at least 6" long and are quite thick. I am not usually a huge cucumber fan (grew these for my wife) but the Ancash Market Cukes taste great, and I have eaten about as many as my wife has.
