(Rosa chinesis) Perennial, often grown as an annual. Precious little true rose blooms the first season from seed! Foot-tall plants yield sweetly scented miniature roses in white, shell pink and deep rose-red. The blooms are mostly double or semi-double. Ever-blooming plants flower all season. Ideal for containers. Plants will overwinter outdoors in most of the country, eventually reaching a height of 2-3 feet. Plants flower more strongly each year. So lovely in cottage-gardens! Requires 4 weeks cold treatment before sowing

What are the pros? Strong plant once established

What are the cons? long germination period

Review:

Update from last year. These roses are planted in a west facing flower bed and survived record heat waves and drought. They are still small, but with the previouly mentioned conditions everything is smaller than it would be under normal conditions. These are blooming machines though and are very hardy.

What are the pros? High germination rate

What are the cons? Very long germination period

Review:

So far when direct seeded in early February (zone 9) they take a very long time to germinate. Weeks go by and all you can think is that it isn't going to do a thing, or maybe you got a bad package, but then just when you're ready to give up on them up they pop around 1 to 3 inches tall. So far they must be working on their root system because while they haven't gotten taller they are holding their own in our wild weather patterns. They are withstanding cold rain, hail, and direct sun up to 90 degrees. I can't wait to see them bloom and will hopefully update my review at that point.
