Annual. Also known as Poor Man’s Orchid, because the flowers do resemble orchids. Exuberant old-fashioned plant sports dozens of flowers in pink through red with yellow splotches at the center. Our mix includes pink, lavender, rose red and two-tone. Exotic looking 10” plants are sublime in containers but equally at home in beds or borders. Favors cool summer conditions or light shade.

What are the pros? Reliable germination & flowers

What are the cons? None

Review:

Easy to start from seeds, one of the first seedlings to start blooming. Set Angel Wings seedlings outdoors when it was still cool; began blooming 4-10-17 (still in full bloom well over a month later). Schizanthus seems to enjoy cool weather and generous watering. Flowers are small with a delicate appearance and graceful foliage. Flowers bloom in clusters of self~made bouquets. Would suggest protection from intense rainfall and some support. This is the second year these Schizanthus seeds (from the same package of BCHS) performed so exquisitely for me.

What are the pros? the only orchid I can grow!

What are the cons? Did not like being inside

Review:

I planted some in the house first but these didn't come up, so I tossed them into the strawberry bed as that had been where I'd intended to plant them. They showed up around July months after I'd forgotten them! I was so excited they are so fun! So much expression and such colors! They did not like being in the house even as cut flowers but did they ever look awesome in the strawberry bed around my other berry bushes too! I had pinks, purples, a bluish even, yellow and a white one!
