This native variety produces tall 10-foot plants with many beautiful large, bright yellow flowers and black centers. The seeds are edible and were used by the Arikara tribe in North Dakota. This heirloom produces flowers over a long period and was a real winner in our garden.

What are the pros?

What are the cons? 50/50 on seedlings

Review:

We had 50/50 success on getting seedlings from both direct sew and transplanting from small pots. We transplanted starts at apx 2 inches tall. After that really easy. Had to stake one. The rest are all about 7-8 feet, one flowering now (August in Seattle). The petals are larger in comparison to to the middle than the picture. Love the look of these on our fence line, but wish they all came in for a full row without gaps.

What are the pros? Decently hardy plant

What are the cons? Disease prone

Review:

I planted 5 outside near the front of my house, it took a few tries but the plants seem to have about a 50% success rate when started directly outside. I got five going and they all seemed to be going really good but all of a sudden one plant got really sick! I pulled in out to separate is from the other plants since it looked like a fungus, but it died withing 4 days. I had them arranged very nicely so one of them dying off was a real bummer. The other plants never had any issues... Plants grew fairly quick; about 3 months and the four survivors were over my roof (about 13 feet).
