This incredibly delicious Iraqi variety comes from our friend Nael Aziz. Satiny, dark purple-black fruits get very large—to 3 pounds or more. Shaped like a squat teardrop, the flesh is sweet and tender, perfect for grilling or baking. The fruit are abundantly produced. Very heat tolerant and productive in our trials.

What are the pros? Beautiful and huge

What are the cons? Flea-beetle magnet

Review:

Grew this last year, and absolutely growing it again this year and every year after! The plant is exceedingly sturdy and would have probably done fine without stakes, except that I'm a worrywart. The fruit was absolutely gorgeous, huge and smooth with the occasional white splotch to a dark violet skin, and perfectly white, nearly seedless flesh. The flavor was also fantastic. Unfortunately the flea beetles really love them, but a little powdered chrysanthemum should take care of that this year.

What are the pros? Big, beautiful, and tasty

What are the cons? None

Review:

Excellent producer from early on until after the frost. Achieved massive size while holding for extended periods of time without producing seeds or losing quality. Excellent saut?ed, baked, or grilled. I will always grow this variety.

What are the pros? Long Lasting

What are the cons? none

Review:

Planted these spring of 2013. Had a good crop. That winter they started to falter a bit, but i left them in the ground. Spring 2014 came, put some compost and additional fertilizer. Now December 2014 and we still have fruit. The plants still look great. Waiting to see if they will last through next year. Lovely dense fruit with few seeds. we love them.

What are the pros? Tolerates the heat!

What are the cons? None

Review:

I grew these because they are listed as heat tolerant. I have no complaints on these plants! My seed germinated well and I transplanted them out into prepared soil in larger pots. I had to put tomato cages around them they got so big! They have produced a lot of fruit, though the fruit has stayed small. It's been reaching around 112F here recently and these plants seem to be laughing at the heat! My Parents tried growing these back east and the humid wet climate didn't work well for them and the plants didn't produce. However here in the dry desert these plants thrive. They seem to tolerate drought too. Even growing in pots I've only had to water them once a day in the high heat. That's a bonus in such an arid hot climate. Desert dwellers, this is your eggplant!

What are the pros? Very easy and tasty.

What are the cons? Plant is large, need support.

Review:

Wow, these produced before asian type was just starting to set flowers. I picked 3each 1-1/2lb fruits within two month period of transplanting, with about a dozen more in various stages of growth. They are prolific and taste great.
