The Atchafalaya Swamp Pea was selected decades ago by Blaine Bourgeois - seed collector extraordinaire! It draws its name from the Atchafalaya River Basin, located in Southern Louisiana where the Atchafalaya River meets the Gulf of Mexico. After Blaine's passing, Joseph Simcox found this variety while working through Mr Bourgeois' collection that had been donated to Baker Creek Seeds by his family. Thanks to Joseph, Blaine and our grower, we are proud to offer this incredibly rare variety to gardeners this year. The stocky plants grow low to the ground with deep dark green foliage. Abundant pods are about 8 inches long and plump full of speckled seeds that are two-toned black to tan. We have a limited supply.
