What are the pros? Grew fine, straight

What are the cons? Bland, not very red

Review:

I grew several varieties of carrots this year: Purple dragon, Cosmic Purple, St. Valery, Nantes Scarlet, Parisienne, and these Atomic Red carrots. The Atomic Reds germinated okay (not as well as, say, the Nantes Scarlet, but still fine), and are growing adequately, but they have not developed much in the way of a red color. I'd say they're more of a slightly pinkish orange. In addition, the flavor is somewhat bland. I was surprised to read other reviews saying that these were spicy! If you're planning to grow only one variety of carrot, I'd skip these and choose St. Valery instead. Or, if you want a very carroty flavored carrot, the purple carrots fit the bill nicely.

What are the pros? Fantastic taste

What are the cons? poor spring harvest

Review:

Great fall carrot in my SW MO garden. I grow Amarillo and an orange variety, usually Chantenay, Berlicum, or Kuroda in the spring. Then plant the ARs in September. I have tried several spring sowings of AR, but they have never produced well. Fall sowings, on the other hand tend to be consistently prolific with great germination rates.

I grew these for the first time this year and wow! They got so big - due to our wet year- and kept their flavor! The sweetest carrot ever! I cannot wait to grow them again!

What are the pros? Color

What are the cons? Size and taste

Review:

My poor review of these carrots may have been my personal inability to grow them well. I'm not entirely sure. They were on the small side (4"). They weren't very palatable unless peeled and then the taste improved greatly. They attracted aphids and ants (symbolic relationship). Won't be growing again. :(

What are the pros? Flavor

What are the cons? small hairy roots, few carrots

Review:

These carrots must have really disliked my soil. I grew with Amarillo (which did wonderfully), an orange carrot and purple sun carrots. This is the only carrot that did not produce. The few carrots harvested were tiny and had the hairiest roots on them. The flavor from those tiny hairy roots was delicious! A little spicy and a real treat. I will try again when I have a raised bed setup for carrots. Perhaps they will fare better in such a setup.
