Introduced in 1897 by W. Atlee Burpee. This variety produces extra fine large bulbs that have superb flavor! The yellow-brown roots are a standard on our farm for their sureness to produce quality.

What are the pros? Easy to grow / great keeper

What are the cons? None

Review:

I wanted to follow up from my previous review. It is now January 7 and I still have a couple Aussie Browns that have keep all fall and not sprouted as the others varieties have. Once properly cured the skins of these onions are noticeably thicker and tougher than other varieties I have grown - Gold Princess, Red Creole and Flats of Italy, Candy, etc. If you are looking for a average tasting yellow onion that keeps well, put this at the top of your list to try. Very impressed

What are the pros? Needs little attention

What are the cons? None

Review:

I planted these in my raised bed with the worse soil and gave them the least amount of attention compared to my other onions. Also I didn't give them adequate spacing. To my surprise they still produced well with many medium sized onions despite the poor soil, excess rain (bad year for onion flies) and over-run with grass. Excited to grow next year under better condition and will likely over-winter for bigger onions.
