Dwarf types with fruits ranging from dessert types to plantain (cooking) types. Height ranges from 6- 12 feet in most cases, making these suitable for container culture. This crop is easy to grow in the south, and produces fruit rather quickly. Some varieties have green fruit and some red. You can grow these as far north as zone 8 with protection or in heated greenhouses or sun-rooms farther north. We love growing bananas in our Missouri green- house and get a crop in under a year. Includes 3 assorted small plants. We are super excited to be offering a selection of live plants, these are produced for us by tissue culture, a natural process that produces plants that are generally high-quality and disease free. We have some stunning new food crops in our plant listing, we hope you will try some of the exciting rare plants we offer this year. Pre-order now, as supplies on some these will be limited. The plants we ship are small, but sturdy, and we offer a 30 day guarantee on live plants. Most plants will be 6”-12” in height. Plants will ship as available after the first of April to the end of June. We will ship orders to southern zones first. No guaranteed delivery dates. No orders shipped outside of the USA. No Extra shipping costs, just pay our regular $3.50. (PRE-ORDER PLANTS WILL SHIP AFTER APRIL 1, 2017)

What are the pros? Easy to grow, grow quickly

What are the cons? Some arrived barely alive

Review:

Most of the bananas looked fairly healthy on arrival, but some looked almost dead. I followed direction and they all grew well, with only one runt. Planted in June after month in pots and most over 7 ft by end of Oct. They look great in the banana circle I built with sweet potato and papaya interspersed. First near frost killed the leaves so I chopped off the top and they are still growing strong. Looking forward to fruit next year if they survive the winter - I am building a temporary greenhouse around them for winter. USDA 8b is still too cold for them to stay outside unprotected.

What are the pros? Price, size, shipped very fast

What are the cons? Unable to select varieties

Review:

I ordered these a couple weeks ago and they arrived within days, packaged very well in biodegradable peanuts that went into my compost bin. The plants were nice sized, very happy, healthy and very moist and crisp (not wilted at all). No need to water immediately after receiving, so I potted them up in some really big tree pots. I mixed up compost with potting soil and planted them in it. They have been doing wonderful! I am keeping them under our mulberry tree right now as its in the 100's here at the moment and don't want to scorch them. One of the plants did have a crack in a leaf from shipping, so that is a bit of a setback for it, but its recovering and growing a new leaf out the top. They look like they have already grown 1-2 inches in 9 days. The only thing I think they could change in selling these plants, is to offer people the selection of the different varieties they show on the baggies the plants arrive in. I would have loved to have selected a Basjoo and a Ice Cream banana.

What are the pros? Healthy Plants

What are the cons? None

Review:

I bought these to use as houseplants and to hopefully get some fruit from. I have only had them for a week and I am glad to say they are doing great! They came in as plugs in small individual bags with their variety name on the bag. They were about 4-6 inches tall on arrival and one has grown an inch since. Overall I think this was a great buy and I'm excited to see if I get bananas when they're larger!

What are the pros? Shipped quickly

What are the cons? can't pick varities

Review:

I ordered these plants in January and due to temperatures were not shipped until April, they arrived the second week of April. Each plant was around 7 to 8" tall and in a plastic bag within a box with packing peanuts. They looked very healthy and I planted them in gallons pots the next day. They are doing beautifully outside right now and growing quickly. I have a Dwarf Red, a dwarf Nam Wah, and one other which I've forgotten the name of. I will have to look at it again so I can update.

What are the pros? Arrived in perfect shape!

What are the cons? Cavendish variety

Review:

I just received my order of three banana plants and they look absolutely perfect. They are about 8 inches tall, not at all wilted or browned, and are clearly labeled. Of the three I received, one was a Dwarf Cavendish. I would have liked a little more unusual variety than regular old Cavendish, but overall I'm very pleased. I hope more varieties will be available to order in the future. :) Thanks Baker Creek!
