New! Compact version of the classic Genovese type that is superior for pot culture, having shorter stem-length between leaf nodes. Widely recognized to be longer-lasting when cut, all of which make "Emily" a better subject for market growers and home gardeners.

What are the pros? great flavor

What are the cons? almost too fast of a grower!

Review:

Fast grower so you have to dead head daily, but produces very well. Flavor is rich and wonderful and color and sheen excellent. Hearty-- I have over 20 plants in full sun in the desert and they are very happy and have been producing for four months. I'll be growing this again and again. Also, I put a few stems in a coffee cup in the kitchen window and they grew roots so I put them in a pot. Amazingly adaptable.

What are the pros? Fast Growth, Dense, Good Taste

What are the cons? Vulnerable to Fungus

Review:

I've got 6 of these guys in my Aquaponics Garden (4 in Deep Water Culture, 2 in a Flood/Drain Media Bed) and I love them, but they seem to be vulnerable in DWC (see 2nd paragraph). These guys germinated really well in a ziplock/paper towel setup (2-3 days?) and I was very happy with how well they took root and got going in the seed trays after that. Early growth was dense and vigorous and the parts I cut for seasoning stayed fresh in a cup of water for over a week in my kitchen But now it looks like the Basil in my DWC have picked up Fusarium Wilt along with some kind of slow, constant leaf Necrosis (could be related to the wilt). This could also have to do with other issues with my system, my PH is very high (around 8-9) and there's lots of unpleasantness going on in the bed already regarding algae which is happily setting up shop on the roots. Sense they grow so quickly, it's not a big deal to pull them and start again, but if you're doing these in AP, think media bed.

What are the pros? Favorite basil

What are the cons? Nothing!

Review:

I love to try different basils each year, but THIS one is a keeper! Wonderful, spicy flavor, abundant leaves, and more compact size than other basils. Will order more seeds than I did this year to make sure there is a ton growing so I can share with friends and family!

What are the pros? very easy to grow

What are the cons? a bit rangier than described

Review:

I grew it in a bit cattle mineral tub. Has a superb taste and is just now going to seed (late Aug/first Sept.) Snipped it off several times and it grew back thick every time (except this last time). Early Aug, it did start getting 'spindly' and when it decided to go to seed, it didn't grow back as thickly as it had earlier. (typical basil) Will definitely grow this one again. LOVED the flavor!!
