What are the pros? Smells so great
What are the cons? Slower growing
I tried to get an early start on these indoors but despite a warm environment and very sunny window, there was no sign of germination even after more than 2 weeks. I then tried germination in damp paper towels and got 100% germination in a matter of days. I transferred sprouts to small pots. 2" seedlings transplanted nicely outdoors in early May into raised beds heavily amended with compost, but due to cool, rainy weather, they grew slowly and had issues with leaf tips going brown. Now that June has brought hotter weather, they are starting to take off. The leaves have an intense fragrance--more citrus than basil--with a very slight bitterness that could be due to early struggling or maybe just part of the flavor profile. It might go away later, as plants are still small. I don't find the hint of bitterness unpleasant, but some may. I'll grow it again, though, for its wonderful, unique flavor. Maybe I'll have better luck with the weather next time, and I'll be better about timing.

What are the pros? Interesting flavor
What are the cons? Taste, drought tolerance
Seeds started indoors died when transplanted. Direct seeded ones grow well when kept well watered. Not as big as other basils. Tastes like lemon balm. Plenty of seed

What are the pros? Absolutely delicious
What are the cons? Nothing really
This is going to be in my garden forever. Literally tastes like you took an incredibly flavorful basil and squeezed lie juice on top. I have not have one person say they were not completely impressed with the flavor. Highly recommend

What are the pros?
What are the cons?
This basil, like my three others, the cinnamon and the genovese, all had 100% germanation. They all sprouted in 1 day. The trick, surface sow, lots of heat and moisture. All grew into beautiful plants. Very easy to grow. Zone 5a. (all basil seeds from Baker's Creek)
