What are the pros? Not bothered by insects
What are the cons? Deer love it
This is a reliable chicory. I start it in early summer, the last week of June or first week of July, and it grows well in my outdoor seedbed.
It grows well through heat and drought and is ready to eat in the early fall. It can be blanched for a week with a flower pot saucer (put duct tape on the whole to for darkness) to make a mild, light-colored heard.
The only problem with it is that deer love it and will eat it down to the ground. As long as the temps are mild and the days are >10 hours long, it will keep growing though.
