(Moluccella laevis) Hardy annual. Tiny white flowers in large green bell-shaped calyxes. Great as a cut flower, fresh or dried. This old-time plant has been cultivated since 1570. Very easy to grow.

What are the pros? pretty, unusual, adaptable

What are the cons? thorns during seed collection

Review:

Unusual. Pretty. Can still grow with little care. Even in dry, terrible soil these things germinated and grew...just tiny! These beautiful flowers are so prolific they bloomed in spring and fall! Easy to collect seed, just watch out for the thorns on the back of the flowers after blooming. I cannot wait to grow them in fertile soil this year! Definitely a 'keeper'.

Review:

We have dry sandy soil and not many flowers thrive there. But these Bells came up with very little fuss; I seeded them in the fall and forgot about them and then was very surprised to see them this spring.

Review:

These were a wonderful addition to our flower garden, very easy to grow from seed. We have numerous seedling coming up in the garden from the flowers reseeding. The flowers seem to last a very long time, much longer than other flowers. My 5 yr old son was especially fond of these since they are a boy color! I am glad to have found this great flower.
