100 days--One of the oldest cane sorghums still on the market, named for its shiny black seeds. The 6-8 foot stalks make a delicious golden sorghum syrup. We are happy to offer this sorghum that was a standard in early America and is still used today.

Review:

This was my first year growing sorghum, but this came up thick and grew fast. However, I did harvest grain from this twice this past season, giving me a ton of seed. Not sure if that's common practice, but I topped it and like most other plants it branched out with many more shoots; a few of the second seed heads didn't get mature though. I would have had A LOT more seed than what I even ended up with if it wasn't for a roving "murder" of destructive birds. They would land at the top of a cane and ride it all the way to the ground to eat the seeds, not even my scarecrow deterred them or even me for that matter, I'd be on one side and they'd be on the other. Half of it was bent over with piles of chaff beneath before I managed to get to it. The early bird...

Review:

Grew successfully for the first time this year from one of your small packets. I did not get enough to make syrup but I will next year because it makes a tremendous amount of seed.
