90 days. Standard old type, large black fruit of excellent quality. Very tasty but is lower yielding and much later than many types and needs a long season.

What are the pros? Oh Yes!!

What are the cons? none

Review:

These beautiful tasty fruit are a joy to harvest. The plants never seems to give up producing. They grow wide and tall, spreading their laden brances which need to be staked otherwise the branches fall to the ground. I have never grown Eggplant before, nor have I seen such large fruit. The lagest weighed in at more than a pound, black shiny and glossy.. I grew them from transplants, my country is hot and humid but the plants never diappointed me. But be warned, they take up a lot of space and need to be mulched and fed with compost tea. I guess they would have done better had I used a light shade cloth over the plants.

What are the pros? lots of eggplant!

What are the cons? no dislikes

Review:

While the description indicates "lower yielding", I found that here in San Diego that Black Beauty is a real workhorse in the garden. Six plants yielded DOZENS of huge eggplant. Grown as our main crop eggplant for dehydrating and freezing, it exceeded our needs and many were shared! The plants and fruit were so huge that I had to support branches at times! Compost, manure, and weak (2 T:gallon) kelp weekly. We kept them picked and didn't allow all the fruit that set to mature as the plants couldn't have supported all of the set fruit. Plants were about 3' tall and vigorously grew in a space about 5'x 4'. I didn't allow the plants to sucker from the ground and pruned to control bugs hiding out on the lower/hidden leaves. The plants were trouble free (other than a hunt for a tomato hornworm) and produced all Summer into Fall.

the name Black beauty sums it up nicely it grows well, taste great, and is pretty much the "First" of all the egg plants but since gardening i said good bye to this beauty and now grow other Rare kinds of egg plant. but if you want a good old time classic egg plant, Grow this one!!! Loves heat, pretty purple flowers, very strong, and you will love the thick eggplants that grow!
