What are the pros? awesome taste, easy to grow

What are the cons? lots of seeds

Review:

Just harvested our first melon yesterday and it was great. We have several more growing. We had a lot of rain after sowing seeds, so we really didn't have to water a lot, but it's been getting hot (100 f) here and the vines and fruit are holding up really well.

What are the cons? none

Review:

I grew Blacktail Mountain this year for the first time and I was impressed. It grew numerous large round black, great tasting melons. I did nothing but plant it and water it, and it grew like crazy. I plan on growing it every year now.

What are the pros? Worth growing in its own right

What are the cons? 70 days is optimistic

Review:

I long sought an easy growing early melon. For years I have struggled with the detestable sugar baby and had it proven time and again sugar baby is a plant looking for a place to die and when the rare survivor does live it puts all it's energy into one basket or melon in this case. Like most other early whatevers one often decides you might well just wait for the real deal melons after tasting the early facsimiles. Then came BLACKTAIL MOUNTAIN! I'll describe it as I would a main cropper because in all areas save waiting time and size this cultivar is every bit the equal of the best of the main season melons. This vine doesn't know it's an early season stand in. It grows just as strong and vigorous, maybe even quicker. It loads up with fruit and finishes them off nicely to proper size and shape without any tapered ends. And then there's the taste test. OMG, GOOD! This isn't a it'll do early, she's as good or better than most. However, the rind is thin and somewhat fragile if shipping.

What are the pros? Sweet, crunchy, single serving

What are the cons? Wanted more

Review:

I planted the whole packet in a small 3 ft x 3 ft space as an afterthought kinda late in the season. It was on the southeast side of the house, right next to the downspout. I promptly forgot about them, never weeded them or watered or fertilized. That spot gets some leaf mulch raked on it every fall, and something planted in it every year (and ignored), but these little melons had the best result. I was hungry one morning last September and went looking for something to eat in the garden, and found a bunch of softball sized melons, a few a little bigger, some a little smaller, a couple already hollowed out by ants. I picked them all and brought them in the house. They were sweet, juicy, and crispy fleshed, not mushy at all. We just sliced them in half and grabbed a spoon to scoop out the flesh, and ate the seeds too!

What are the pros? Very Sweet

What are the cons? A bit seedy

Review:

Delicious sweet watermelon. These were great to grow. Like some people said they were slow to start but once they did start they went nuts. I had 4 plants and harvested 12 melons. They grew one at a time on the vine. Once I harvested the vines would immediately flower again and then another melon would grow. There were 4 that were about 5lbs and the other 8 were less than three pounds. You can literally eat these from end to end. The small ones I didn't even dice up I just cut the top off and ate with a spoon like a mini bowl which kept the sweet juice inside the melon and not on my hands. Only shortcoming is they have plenty of seeds, so be prepared for that.
