Blue Beauty Tomato

80 days. Indeterminate. This recent Brad Gates introduction was selected from a cross between ‘Beauty King’ and a blue tomato. Fruits are modest beefsteak-type slicers, weighing up to 8 ounces, and the flavor is as good as their outstanding anti-oxidant content! Gorgeous, deep blue-black shoulders make this unique among slicing types. Excellent potential for market, as the fruits hold well on the vine. Sunburn- and crack resistance are a welcome bonus.

What are the pros? Best tasting tomato

What are the cons? Stopped ripening in fall

Review:

My neighbors and I all thought the taste of Blue Beauty was exceptionally good, juicy, flavorful and delicious. It was my favorite tomato after Sun Sugar. Earliest Blue Beauty tomatoes were large and ripened well. Late season tomatoes were smaller and simply stayed green and wouldn't ripen on the vine. Eventually I picked them and put them in the garage for several weeks. As they slowly showed pink color I brought them in the house where they slowly ripened to rosy red and were fine. I ate some as late as Thanksgiving here in Green Bay Wisconsin, so I would call them good keepers too.

What are the pros? Deep purple fruit.

What are the cons? No flavor at all.

Review:

This variety performed well in germination and early growth. The fruits that were exposed to sun developed a deep purple hue. It's difficult to tell when to harvest, as fruit begins turning pink on the bottom when still hard and they never get very red. The flavor was a complete disappointment. Very bland. Cannot recommend.

What are the pros? Taste, looks, started well

What are the cons? none

Review:

It was hard to rate the maturity as here in OH we had a cold wet spring which meant planting later and a cool wet summer with temps barely hitting 80 most of the time. I know if this summer was more 'normal' we'd have gotten more fruit and a second yield, but alas. Regardless, these started beautifully from seed. And the fruit is a nice size, stunning to look at and the taste definitely matches its looks. I will also say, out of the other heirlooms I ordered (Morado and Large Barred Boar) these did fruit and ripen a little earlier. I will definitely order more and start BBs again next year.

What are the pros? Flavor and health benefits

What are the cons? N/A

Review:

This tomato is beautiful, has antioxidants, and tastes lovely! We at it with mozzarella, basil, and other heirloom store bought tomatoes and none of the store bought tomatoes had the same complexity and delicious flavor as the blue beauty did. I will definitely be growing again!
