The "Golden Ball" or "Orange Jelly" variety has been a mainstay of European turnips for over 150 years. This seed came to us from France where this old turnip is still cherished, written about and grown. It has a finer flavor than many of the whitefleshed varieties as the yellow flesh is sweeter and milder. Lovely color.

What are the pros? Very easy to grow.

What are the cons? none

Review:

I have grown this variety for several years, for fermenting (along with a little beet and red onion). It is my favorite ferment. It is gorgeous, very productive, and so happy to be in the garden here in the San Joaquin Valley. One of my all-time favorites, and I've been gardening for more than 50 years. It prefers rainfall to irrigation for germination. I usually plant in late September or early October, once the soil has sufficiently cooled. Could be planted in the spring, but spring here so short, I think they are sweeter grown over the winter.

Review:

I decided to try this turnip, although I hate turnips from the store. I am so glad I did! This variety is great. It absorbs the flavor of everything around it. My daughter thought she was eating a potato. We will grow this every year.

What are the pros? Great taste and easy to grow

What are the cons? what's not to like?

Review:

This is the best turnip I've ever grown. It looks handsome and has a taste both richer and milder than most turnips. And the greens are impressive too! I ignored the advice on the seek packet to grow it as a fall crop and planted it in March. At least here in Virginia (admittedly with an unsually cool and wet spring), it did great as a spring crop.

Review:

Grew larger than purple top turnips, sometimes twice the size, and tasted better -- a mild-tasting, straw-colored globe. I'll be growing more next year for sure.
