What are the pros? Root and greens both super

What are the cons? A bit light colored pickled

Review:

I've grown this beet for 2 years now and have to say, it's one of my favorite beets. The root is sweet but the greens are absolutely wonderful as well. Very large and tender! I like to pickle beets for winter table treats but these don't keep the deep color as much as some of the other varieties I've raised but the flavor is still wonderful so I can give up a bit of color for the other great qualities of this beet. My first year planting them I put in 2 rows. By late summer I had enough beets and greens for our household as well as many friends tables. So a super productive beet. Last year I cut back to one row and had enough to eat as well as share. I froze greens for winter and they taste great even after being in the freezer all winter. And due to my huge crop the year before I didn't have to pickle last summer. I plan to put in a very short row this year just for the greens but we'll enjoy the root just as much as the greens.

What are the pros? Gorgeous & tasty foliage

What are the cons? rarely makes beets

Review:

I've been growing these for a couple of years now and my results are a mixed bag. The biggest beet I've ever gotten was about half as big as a golf ball, and many never made one at all. However the foliage is stunning and wonderful in salads, on burgers, or even lightly sauteed and there's plenty of it. Our chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs feast on the leaves and they make a lovely, sneaky addition to our front flowerbeds (no one believes they're edibles!). I've grown them in wicking beds, flower beds, tossed out in the yard, in the garden, even in pots. Same results. SO, for me they are wonderful to grow just for the leaves and stalks, but for beet production they've been almost a total miss. Not sure what I'm doing wrong... other root crops have done great for me. I'll keep growing them though.

What are the pros? Beautiful

What are the cons? Low germination, slow grower

Review:

Got these beets after reading great reviews on it. I had bad luck trying to grow these fellas. First attempt, no germination. Second attempt, a tree fell on that part of my garden and I never got to see results. Not the beets' fault! Third attempt was in prime conditions and only 20% germination! Those that did grow were slow to mature and were a bit woody. Maybe it's because I planted the third time around in late April in California instead of Late February/March like I usually do, but that really shouldn't matter that much. It was still relatively cool. I think this variety hates me. But I am willing to try again in Fall and Spring due to the high praise of this vegetable. And by the way, everything else in my garden was doing fantastic, so I dunno...

What are the pros? delicious, useful, beautiful.

What are the cons? not all planted germinate.

Review:

I will plant this again! Even with 20% not germinating, it's worth it! Delicious raw, delicious roasted, greens are great raw, and next time I will try them toasted (in the oven like kale).
