Carouby De Maussane Snow Pea

65 days--This time-honored variety produces some of the largest pods we've ever seen in snow peas—often reaching 5-6 inches in length! The robust plants vine to 5 feet. The bicolored flowers, borne in pairs, are pink and burgundy, maturing through purple to nearly sky blue, distinctive and pretty enough to merit a spot in the border. The succulent pods are of robust flavor, and vary somewhat from plant to plant, which makes this variety all the more interesting in stir-fries and salads. Originated in Maussane, near Avignon in southern France.

What are the pros? Beautiful Tasty Prolific

What are the cons? None

Review:

Planted last year both early and late. The early crop was picked all through summer and didn't stop producing until the dead heat, gets to be 100 around here. The pods are thin and crisp and super tasty raw, steamed, sauteed and stir fried. The plant is beaufitul and grew quite tall. I used a hog wire about 5ft tall by 6ft wide which held 14 plants. I started the first seven, waited a couple of weeks and then started the next to stagger the harvest. Everyone LOVED these, even the grandkids ate them off the vine. After the high temps, it dried out and I pulled and replanted in late august and harvested through the winter. Will grow again this year and am anxious to see if the production is better or worse with El Nino. Last years California drought seemed to still do okay. I've tried other snow peas and this is by far the best.

What are the pros? easy grow, tasty, pretty

What are the cons? None

Review:

I was really happy with these seeds. I will grow more of them next year and will give some seeds to friends. Almost all of the seeds germinated and the peas grew really well. The flowers were lovely, so pretty. The peas are huge and so tasty and sweet. The plants held up well against the heat (I was a little late planting). Went out of my way to write this review, as I liked these peas so much.

What are the pros? flower color, taste

What are the cons? some had parchment

Review:

in my experience the peas seem to like hot weather(a few of them had some sort of non fatal rot on the buds early in the year when it was cold and wet)and they did not seem to mind drought although you should be sure to provide Adequate support because they get big and heavy(in my garden the vines got about 7 feet and the pods 5 inches)also some plants were giving pea pods with parchment in them but overall a good variety that had a sweet taste and good crunchy texture

What are the pros? Flavor, size, flower

What are the cons? A bit slower to set

Review:

This pea was a little slow to flower and set, but once it went into production it was produced abundantly. Some pods almost immediately produced seeds, and others remained like a snow pea pod without any swelling of seeds, until the pod reached a very large size. Quite a beautiful and flavorful pea. I am growing it again this year.
