60 days. Pre-1840 Italian heirloom beet, this variety arrived in the USA prior to 1865. They have light red skin and beautiful rings inside, like red and white candy stripes. The flesh is very tender, mild and sweet. Named after a fishing town in Italy, a favorite here.

What are the pros? beautiful, easy to grow

What are the cons? lose color when cooked

Review:

These beets are amazingly beautiful when they are raw. I chopped them up for a veggie soup and they looked like a bowl full of peppermints! These held up just fine to the light frosts we have through the winter and still grew pretty quickly. The only bummer is that they lose all their beautiful color once you cook them, but they still taste great.

What are the pros? Superb steamed

What are the cons? none

Review:

This is one great beet. The beet root and the greens are divine when steamed. Greens also add a little spice when used raw in a green smoothie.

What are the pros? Fun to grow, unique

What are the cons? Maybe not the best tasting

Review:

This was a great beet and tasted pretty good. The stripes are certainly very unique and attract some attention. I recommend growing this variety if you want to try something interesting out, but maybe this is just me but the taste was not the most spectacular. This could have been due to poor soil conditions though, or something like that, so try them before you make a call!
