Doug from Philly
What are the pros? Required little maintenance.
What are the cons? Huge vines and leaves.
I've tried for several years to grow pumpkins, and finally this year with this variety I've had success. I live in zone 7a (Philadelphia, PA) and planted seeds directly into mounds of compost soil and all the seeds I planted germinated.
The vines can get very long, and the leaves are very big. I've got 4 or 5 nice sized pumpkins growing, though, and (barring any human or animal problems) should have nice pumpkins for jack-o-lanterns.
I've hardly watered at all, mostly relying on mother nature, and did not do any fertilizing or anything beyond putting the seeds in small piles of compost soil (compost that is the consistency of soil).
Thanks, Baker Creek!
