We have grown these pumpkins for three years now. Always nice round large sized pumpkins; average producer; average keeper. However, the flesh is has always been stringy and very watery when cooked; somewhat like an acorn squash, but more watery. First year we thought it had crossed with our zucchini or another squash. Last year we bought new seed and did not plant any other species of pumpkin or squash in the garden....same results. If you want a jack o lantern pumpkin these are great size with firm skin. I want to be able to eat them as well, so I will be trying another breed next year.

Everyone I know that's planted pumpkins this year has either had them not sprout at all or grow a little and just stop and not ever bloom and/or produce anything. Not surprising, since we're in a horrible heat wave and drought in Colorado. However, everyone is envious of our great little pumpkin patch because ours has actually survived, thrived and has been producing very well! It appears that one or two that I planted were victims of the heat, but the rest are doing just find and my kids love peeking under the leaves and finding the beautiful orange pumpkins! Once they start growing, they seem to develop rather quickly. We haven't had a huge yield, but I blame that on our weather situation mostly. In spite of it, though, we have had over ten growing so far, which I think is excellent considering our conditions. I've used these to make pumpkin pie as well and it turned out great!

Review:

These nearly took over my entire garden. Though I planted too late for many of the blooms to pollinate with enough time to produce large fruit, I still ended up harvesting 75 pumpkins (8-16 lb avg) ...3 lb/sq ft. The fruit grew about 1 lb/week. Some of the leaves got white blotches, but this didn't seem to affect the fruit. The plants liked lots and lots of water... more than the nearby cucumber plants could take.Three months after harvest, most have kept well in the cellar on cardboard (I've lost perhaps 1 in 5).It is easy for the pumpkin flavor to get lost in spicy dishes like Pumpkin Curry and Pumpkin Chilly, so be sure to cook the slimy-stringy stuff too for extra Pumpkin flavor! When baking pumpkin seeds, try experimenting a little bit...variate the time & temps to impart different roasted flavors, (ie. biscuit, toast, toffee, chocolate, coffee, peat, etc...) just like when roasting coffee or barley!

We have grown these for two years now on our Oregon farm. They have been great for Jack O'Lanterns. They haven't yielded a lot per hill. But our soil isn't fantastic either.
