This one is causing excitement at farmers’ markets. Carrots have bright purple skin and flesh that comes in shades of yellow and orange. Spicy and sweet-tasting roots are great for marketing.

What are the pros? Grows straight, cleans easy

What are the cons? nothing!

Review:

My kids loved these carrots better than the orange ones we grew. They liked that they were a different color and would pick them, wash them off with the water hose, and eat them up! I'll have to do a larger crop this fall so I can have some to can. They grew super straight and tapered and were so much easier to clean. Just don't peel them or you lose the purple color! However, these have a thinner peel than the orange ones do so not a problem here!

What are the pros? Delicious, spicy, beautiful

What are the cons? Easy splitter

Review:

I love this delicious and beautiful carrot. But I'm sad to let it go this year because the weather here is too erratic and extreme to grow them. These split so badly compared to other traditional varieties. A good portion of them looked like a hideous monster from the 80s horror movie the Thing. Once they split, they made great homes for all kinds of slugs, rolly pollies and earwigs. I'll be growing a more hardy and less exotic carrot from now on because of our lousy climate. Our soil and weather is pretty bad, so I would still recommend this carrot to anyone else who has even slightly better conditions.

What are the pros? flavor and color

What are the cons? none

Review:

Very nice purple color with bright orange flesh inside. The flavor even when small is good, a bit spicy. Raw or cooked these are a keeper. We had great germination and were easy to grow.

What are the pros? So Unique

What are the cons? none

Review:

I wanted to grow this carrot for its lovely purple coating and fell in love with its beauty and its lovely, spicy flavor. I have to pull them every time someone comes to visit to show off my purple carrots with the brilliant orange interior and nearly force them to eat one as they leave! I will grow these again. Fun and delicious!

Review:

Grew these for the first time this year with good results. Some of the larger ones split quite badly and I personally did not taste any spicy flavor they were said to have. All in all a good and tasting carrot and quite beautiful in appearance.
