This one is causing excitement at farmers’ markets. Carrots have bright purple skin and flesh that comes in shades of yellow and orange. Spicy and sweet-tasting roots are great for marketing.

What are the pros? Healthy, pretty, easy growing

What are the cons? None

Review:

It's just an absolutely gorgeous vegetable! So bright and healthy, and easy growing. It has strong but sweet taste, very distinguished texture with long colorful fibers. Works great for eating fresh or steaming (or any other cooking) and it doesn't lose its flavor!

What are the pros? Good germination

What are the cons? no growth

Review:

Grew these in a raised bed in the FL Panhandle. Bed was 18" deep. Direct sowed mid March and by mid July the biggest was no more than 3" long and about as thick as a dry erase marker. Germination was good though, I'd say 80% plus. It might be the heat but I got pretty much nothing. Still have plenty of seeds left and will try again for a fall harvest. Maybe use these in as a substitute in recopies with baby carrots. Flavor was still good and sweet, the smell was amazing. Just need them to actually grow bigger.

What are the pros? Amazing taste and color

What are the cons? None

Review:

I planted these for the first time last summer in our upstate New York garden and I am definitely planting them again this growing season. I sprinkled the seeds in our horse manure soil and I swear every one of them germinated. I had a hard time thinning the carrots out, so I ended up leaving them and picking the biggest ones as they matured. The smaller ones then had more space to grow and continued doing so. Result: a steady stream of these beautiful carrots all summer long. The carrots are perfect freshly picked from the garden and eaten on the spot or chopped into a salad, adding a splash of color to the greens.

As another customer has mentioned, I froze as many as I could! Using all the frezzer space I have:) I love them so much I would pick them and give them a quick rinse and eat!

What are the pros? The fantastically SWEET flavor

What are the cons? None!

Review:

This is hands down the best flavored carrot we have ever grown. They attained good size in some cases got huge. There were a few that cracked, but not many and we felt it was more do to our late digging and the weather. With the ones that got huge, my first thought was, well, these are going to be too woody to eat...but not so. They were still great and no woody stringy core. The flavor was incredibly sweet with spice like subtle accents, I started out canning them, but think I will switch to freezing as the canning process took away some of the sweet flavor....still good, but these gems are so fantastic that I will give up the freezer "real estate" for them!
