Cosmonaut Volkov Tomato

75 days. A smooth and attractive, medium-large red tomato that has a full, rich flavor. The productive vines yield well even in hot weather; perfect for canning or slicing. This variety is from Dniepropetrousk, Ukraine, and was named after the first Russian Cosmonaut. In response to many requests, we are pleased to add this variety to the catalog.

What are the pros? Heavy producer; great flavor

What are the cons? None

Review:

This tomato grows great in Portland, Oregon. I've grown 20 different varieties in each of the last 4 years and always grow Cosmonaut Volkov because it never fails me. It is usually the first of my large tomatoes to ripen. It gives me more fruit and total fruit weight than any other tomato. I love the flavor! Great slicer and canner.

What are the pros? It's a tomato

What are the cons? Taste

Review:

Disappointing. Watery and bland- more like a grocery store tomato than any garden tomato should be- you can find so many better options. Tried multiple seasons.

Plant grew very quickly. Harvested first fruit in less than 2 months. Fruits were large and abundant but only mediocre taste.

What are the pros? taste, productivity

What are the cons? none

Review:

Wow, this plant is amazing 14 large fruits that have great taste when all my others dropped flowers and barely had one green fruit due to bad heat we had for weeks now, It was vigorous healthy plant first to produce and ripen, I will be planting much more of these next year and tell everyone I know that they should as well!

What are the pros? Acid and tasty

What are the cons? Green shoulders and low fruit

Review:

It was a disappointing yield for my first year growing these. It was a rainy spring followed by a hot dry summer and the fruit didn't produce as well as I had hoped.
