What are the pros? Beautiful plants

What are the cons? Some won't develop properly

Review:

First of all this will be my 3rd year growing country gentleman. They are the most beautiful plants I have ever seen. The plants are a little slow and weak when they are young but get hardier and hardier as time goes. The plants are somewhat bug resistant because they develop at different rates. Because they develop at different rates not all corn develops into good cobs. The corn upon taste is not extremely sweet but hearty tasting. It has a texture I would describe as meaty/creamy. If you want the biggest baddest corn in the county go no further because these things are massive. The seed I save keeps getting better and the nieghbors corn won't pollinate it because these bloom later then super hybrids.

What are the pros? Oldtime flavor, in spades!

What are the cons? Does develop a few half-ears.

Review:

This is my alltime favorite sweet corn.. I grew up considering it a huge treat, and still do. Please note that this is NOT one of those genetically tampered-with "corn" varieties that just mostly taste like sticking your tongue in the sugarbowl. This has genuine old-style CORN flavor, not corn-candy flavor....and, yes, it's quite adequately sweet if you cook it within a day or two of picking. Try two things: 1) When it first hits milk stage, eat some raw. You'll thank me. 2) Make old-fashioned fried corn with plenty of black pepper. You'll thank me even louder. :) It does occasionally make half-ears, but hey, the yield is good enough you can afford to toss those to the wildlife if you choose.

What are the pros? Heirloom seeds

What are the cons? Not sweet

Review:

In all fairness, I'm not sure what company I bought my seeds from, but this is the same variety -- Country Gentleman sweet corn. We just harvested our first batch, and we were very disappointed. Barely a hint of sweetness. Tastes like I imagine field corn would taste. As others have mentioned, the stalks grow very tall! I put a radio in my corn patch to keep away the critters (turned up just enough not to annoy the neighbors, and which, by the way, works!), but now I'm not so sure they aren't welcome to all the corn they want.

What are the pros? Easy to Grow

What are the cons? Some cobs underdeveloped

Review:

Amazing flavor! This corn grew fast and tall, we had a crazy storm come through and knocked the entire crop over, but my his and stood it up with stakes and it is all doing fine and producing well! My only dislike would be that even with both my husband and I pulling tassels and helping along the pollination, some ears only developed half of the kernels. The ones that did fully develop were extremely flavorful and big, at least 8", and 3 to 4 cobs per plant!
