What are the pros? cheerful and fun
What are the cons? heavy feeders, fragile plants
Jester marigolds are really eye-catching and unique with their striped flowers. They make good cut flowers and there is nothing quite like them in the garden.
The plants grow very tall and leggy, with sparse leaves and thin stems, almost like bachelor buttons. They are not short and bushy like most other marigold varieties.
I have grown this variety for several years, and have found that it only blooms well when given rich soil and plenty of compost or fertilizer. It should be somewhat sheltered, as the stems break easily.
