(Cuminum cyminum) The flavorful seeds are an important ingredient in many Mexican dishes, also used in bread and cakes. Small, tender, crawling plants reach about 6 inches tall.

What are the pros? Nice to find seeds

What are the cons? Difficulty in germinating

Review:

Out of 10 or so seeds I have one survivor but the last one is growing strong after two months of germination time. It has not been moved out of the original pot and is in the greenhouse where we get very hot dry days with cool nights. I water every day but the soil ends up dry by night time anyways, this could be the key to growing success. These plants should be treated as Mediterranean plants; avoid over watering and make sure they get lots of hot sun with very free draining soil. Add grit or gravel in the bottom of the pot. They hate wet feet.

What are the pros? too early to tell

What are the cons? slow to germinate

Review:

Maybe I'm just not waiting long enough. Planted about 10 seeds and one came thru. They were planted 18 days ago. Since a friend and I shared this package as a trial I don't have the info on germination time.

Review:

I've tried starting it in the greenhouse, I've tried growing it in a pot on the kitchen windowsill, I've tried direct sowing into the garden. Mine don't even flower, they just keel over and quit one day. Zone 8a

Review:

I have little trouble with any seeds, from this company or anywhere, including everything else in this plant family. But cumin vexes me. Germination is not the problem, which is where I usually have problems, if I do. It's after that--this plant just will not thrive no matter how many different ways I treat it. It insists on looking like a half-dried 3-6" twig until it puts up a pathetic flower and promptly turns brown. Any advice would be much appreciated! thanks!
