What are the pros? Grows well in NC.
What are the cons? None
This was the first beet to do well on our little farm. We tried Detroit Dark Red and Early Wonder for several years, with little success. Cylindra has great taste and is resistant to heat and drought. We will always grow this beet. It’s so nice to have too many beets for once!

Once I find a couple of winners in a category, I often get stuck! Why mess with a great producer that we love to eat? Plus I have a finite amount of space so experiments must be limited. I selected this beet solely for the promise of more slices and more even slices of beet for canning. This beet FAR EXCEEDED my expectations. The beets were amazingly large, nice texture, and wonderful taste. They were great raw! In terms of canning and pickling they seemed to cook more quickly and evenly versus round beets (a real time saver!). Overall Cylindra beets is our new go-to beet.

I had a lot of variation in the size on these, from 1-1/2 to about 4 inches. I love the shape -- they're perfect for slicing into bite-sized pieces for pickling. Good texture and taste -- better than most I've had.
