(Ipomoea purpurea) A variety of this well-known and easy-to-grow climber has eye-catching clear blue flowers with a darker purple-blue star. This stunning variety is early to bloom and is sure to stand out on any garden fence.

What are the pros? Color, durability

What are the cons? none

Review:

I grew this in a container in between my raised beds and rabbit fence. It came up fast but I had a ground hog get into my garden in June and July and he ate this entire plant down to the stalk. It had no leaves or flowers at all. this happened 2x and the 2 plants bounced back and now its 9/14/2016 and the plant extended 5 feet down the rabbit fence and it grew up over 4 feet on my regular fence. Every morning there are about 30-40 flowers opened up. it is stunning. Any one who has seen the plant has been wowed. the colors in the flower are incredible.

What are the pros? Easy, pretty

What are the cons? Wondering if it will self-sow.

Review:

Although I grow lots of things with no problem, I have tried and failed to grow various kinds of morning glories for several years now. Tried direct sowing early and late, and starting in peat pots on and off heat: no luck. These did the trick! Started them in egg cartons in baggies on a heat mat, planted them out (still in the egg cartons), and they covered my alley fence and flowered heavily. I think they will self-sow and come back next year here in zone 6; there certainly are tons of seeds back there!
