De Grace Snow Pea

A lovely dwarf variety that was grown in America before 1836, and likely much longer ago in Europe. This variety has been extinct to the North American seed trade for more than 20 years, so we are happy to bring back this great pea. The pods are medium sized and sweetly flavored, crisp and tender. The vines produce over a long season and are more frost hardy than many modern varieties.

What are the pros? Amazing winter hardiness

What are the cons? Slightly slow to grow

Review:

I planted these rather late in the season. They took longer than the Oregon Sugar Pod II's to sprout and yield, however the De Grace actually tasted like the Snow Peas from my childhood. In addition, they threw a quick crop that I figured was light due to the delay in planting. I forgot to pull them and 2-3 weeks later they had another crop. Then, 2-3 weeks later they had yet -another- crop. I currently have a tarp over them covered in snow and they are still blooming. I have no idea when they'll stop. I mean, it's almost December and I live in Northern Idaho. Granted, I'm hand pollinating since all the bees have packed their little suitcases and left (or hunkered down in their cozy hives). They also seem to have much hardier vines than the Oregon's. Overall, I am exceedingly happy with how these did.
