90 days. This tomato was developed many years ago by Burpee's from "Beefsteak" tomato, after 13 years of selection for smoother fruit. This really big tomato produces huge 1-to 3-lb fruit that are fairly smooth for a giant tomato, and as the name implies, these are delicious! In 1986 it set the world record for weight, with a giant 7 lb 12 oz fruit! Image provided by www.abundantacres.net

What are the pros? Large, Super Flavor, Prolific

What are the cons? none

Review:

I've grown this variety for about 10 years now. This year I must have got everything right. The vines are so huge and loaded with tomatoes that the cage/supports are coming apart. These plants, 2, are over 10 ft. tall and 4 ft wide. So far between these two plants and 2 Cherokee Purple, all from Baker Creek Seeds, I've harvested over 100 lbs of tomatoes and they've only been in production for about 3 weeks. The delicious are averaging a pound each or more. Fantastic flavor to go along with size. I owe everything I know about tomatoes to Charles Wilber who holds the guinness book of world records for the most pounds of tomatoes grown from one vine, 340 something lbs. I will be more than happy if I get 340 lbs off of all 4 of my plants. Large temp swings seem to ruin the pollination process. I had some catfacing early on but it's disappearing now and my crop is beautiful. Good luck to all you tomato growers. Thank You Baker Creek.

Last summer was my first growing exclusively heirloom tomatoes. I had a few other varieties but the Delicious did the best for me and was the most flavorful too. Definitely going to try this again next year.

In zone 3 we planted about 8 of 33 tomato plants and they all thrived-canned a lot with them-although I have to cook off a lot of water-or skim it off and make tomato soup with it! Had a slight/late case of blight only on one plant-but didn't affect the tomatoes that were ripening. Definately lives up to its name!

i have tried this tomato last year. and what i said was delicious. and sweet. with a bold taste that you can't find in any other tomato. and i grew a three in a half pounder. it was so good. that i was in tomato heaven. and one of the delcious tomato plants crossed pollenated with a true black brandywine tomato. and it was delicious and with a kick of spice. i hope i will grow it again this year.
