What are the pros? No pests, no diseases, winner
What are the cons? None
Plant likes to crawl everywhere! I have two large melons and several smaller thumb size fruits that may develop. So far I have not seen any bests on them, no diseases, they don't seem to be scarring or rotting either! Loads of female flowers and they are just getting started. The leaves do not crowd out other plants so letting it crawl around doesn't hurt anything but may be attractive to snakes.
Planted in sandy soil near a creek bed, wild thumb size watermelons grow inside the creek from time to time which is a good indicator and the Dixie Queens love the area. One of the best crops I planted this year, I'll be replanting them every year.
Texas, USDA zone 8b
