Annual. Extravagant deep maroon version of a widely occurring native wildflower. Single blooms seem to float above one- to two-foot plants. Easy from seed, prefers dry soils. Plains Coreopsis is used by the Zuni people of the Southwest to make a mahogany dye.

What are the pros? grows like a dingbat

What are the cons? none

Review:

"Deep maroon" may be correct for the seed sold here, but what I sowed last year (don't remember where I bought it from) was definitely red. I sowed the seed in the garden on my roof where it grew a foot tall, and in the vegetable and flower garden where it put splashes of deep cadmium red just where I needed them, growing taller and lusher than on the roof, and just as cheerfully. A lovely reminder of the glorious richness of USA plant life for this expat American.
