What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? Slower

Review:

I grew this and one other variety of kale this year. The other kale was more tolerant of the summer warmth (I'm in New York, so not terribly hot here). This kale really took off once the weather cooled down. It seemed to have a rather mild flavor at first, but once we had a good hard frost, it had a very distinct horseradish flavor to it. My husband and I didn't mind it at all, but I heard some grumbles from my children when I used it in their soup. I appreciated that the leaves on this one didn't get tough and remained tender, but the flavor of my other variety was much more mild. Again, I sort of enjoyed slightly spicy flavor, but those with kiddos might want to be aware of this possibility.

What are the pros? Reliable, Good for Juicing

What are the cons? None

Review:

This has become our main Kale for my garden in Cental PA and my garden in Easter PA (Warmer). Use Kale for juicing and in cooking. Name says Dwarf but it grows as big or bigger than the other Kales. Seems pretty self sufficient, if you can keep it from getting too dry it does fine all season long. Very easy to grow from seed.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, great flavor

What are the cons? Susceptable to cabbage worms.

Review:

This is a mild flavored kale. I compare the taste somewhere between broccoli and brussel sprouts. I went away for a few days and the caterpillars ate it up, so I let it flower. The bumble bees absolutely loved the flowers!!

What are the pros? Tender, mild tasting kale

What are the cons? None

Review:

Looking for the perfect kale for salads? This is it! The young tender leaves have a mild baby spinach- like taste. As they mature the flavor gets a little more deep with a very slight and pleasing bitterness- but still tender. Most of the larger leaves have stayed fairly flat, rather than curly. Best kale for fresh salads ever! Also good for tossing into a cooked dish like soup at the very end as it does not need a long time to cook. Think of it as you would fresh basil!

Review:

This provided many tasty salads even in the heat of summer. It was never bitter and is still providing us with kale in November.
