(Brassica oleracea) Delicious cabbage-flavored bulbs that grow above ground. Purple skin and sweet, white flesh; good cooked or raw. Kohlrabi makes a real staple crop, with high yields; cold hardy. A pre-1860 heirloom.

What are the pros? Tasty, easy to grow,

What are the cons? small harvest, stunts tomatoes

Review:

Wow..where to start. This vegetable is amazing one of the best that I have ever tired. I was very excited about these seeds from the very beginning. First thing to note is the germination rate is very low, no biggie there was a ton of seeds in the pack. Planted about 60 seeds in 3-4 a hole directly on the ground. About 20 took off, around the 34% germination stated. Taste wise, this is my new favorite. Its a little intensive to prep but worth every bit of it. I cooked mine in a pan with white onion, garlic, terragon, and olive oil and cooked it on low for about 2 hours (way overkill but I had the time). Simply amazing... I read online that it is better to harvest small (golf ball size) opposed to large (softball size). I harvested 2x about the size of a golf ball and 2x about 3". Of the four they all tasted sweet. There was very little difference. The small tasted slightly more sweet/subtle. Im going to grow one to about 4" now to compare flavor. You only get one per plant after all!

What are the pros? Easy, beautiful and glorious

What are the cons? Got very big, very fast.

Review:

These were a lovely addition to the garden this year. They were good at all stages of their growth. Crispy and tangy flavors, delicious with any kinds of summer salad or fall stew. These bad boys came to be about 20 centimeters long and 14 wide. Perfect for the short summer days in Quebec.

What are the pros? easy to grow, pretty color

What are the cons? not so eager to mature

Review:

I purchased this to grow for my mother-in-law and we are still waiting for them to get big enough to harvest. I'm wondering if I waited to long to start these bad boys. They are a beautiful color and I'm disappointed I put them in my side yard because I don't get to gaze at them in my backyard garden. Since they are in my side yard, they have been pretty much neglected and doing wonderful. I will try these again next year but maybe a little earlier

Review:

Kohlrabi is an underrated vegetable which should definately be grown more often! It has a lovely crispy sweet flavor with a versatile garden life, meaning you have a window of harvest time that you don't have to pick them all at once! I also had NO pest problems with Kohlrabi in the spring while worms and flea beatles were at so many of my other spring crops.

Review:

We grow both the white and purple viennas. The white have a higher percent that grow to fruition and they grow faster as well, but the combination of the white and purple together at Market or in a CSA box (and on your plate) is wonderful. Highly recommend growing both!
