50 days. An old heirloom, pre-1811 variety. Early, smooth, round beet; makes lots of tall tender greens, too! Perfect pickled, fresh, cooked, or in borscht.

What are the pros? Surviving in dryland condition

What are the cons? None

Review:

In our semi-arid climate we have never been successful in germinating beets. This year we used Charles Dowding?s technique of germinating in cells in the nursery, 4 to a cell. They are now planted out and growing very well. Leaves large and tasty. Waiting for the roots to form. But just to have gotten this far along is a great succes for us!

What are the pros? Excellent Flavor, Very large

What are the cons? None

Review:

This is our first year planting these. We have always planted Detroit Reds in the past. I will continue to plant Early Wonder Beets from now on. These beets have a lot better flavor, they get very large without getting woody at all. We got 2 plantings out of these this year in Ohio and if I would have had the time could have easily gotten a third in too. Huge crops and they store very well. We canned and froze batches of these and they both did very well. Only trouble was keeping from eating them all straight from the peeling water!! ;)

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? Take a lot of room

Review:

Early wonder beets are easy to grow and tasty and colorful. I like them better than Detroit. I find all beets are better when they have spent some cool nights, so when I pick them early I store in fridge for a few days

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? Bland. Woody.

Review:

Yield was exceptional. They were easy to grow, but none of them grew bigger than a racquet ball. Despite the small size, even the early beets had a woody stem in the center that was like a steel wire. On top of that, the flavor was really bland compared to the Detroits.
