What are the pros? Flavor, prolific, beautiful
What are the cons? thick skins
These are the best tasting eggplants I've grown. I grow Ichiban, Black Beauty, and Casper, and these are easily the taste winner. They were some of the first to mature, somewhere in size between your standard European eggplant and an Asian long variety.
The flavor is rich and nutty. In a mixed dish of roasted eggplant, we could easily tell when we got a bite of this variety.
And they're so pretty to look at. Nice that there's some substance to it.
Only complaint is the skins are thicker than Asian eggplant, but I find that's the case with most European-style eggplants.
