We've grown this in our family for generations. Very striking plant. Grown in many different climates all with good results- grows much bigger in areas with more water and better soil, but sometimes. Can outgrow my sunflowers! Sometimes I like to put it in a poor area where it stays smaller and redder. It will self seed itself like crazy so I use it as a green mulch in the spring by pulling the extras. Leaves are a beautiful green/red which turn redder as the season cools. Finches and small birds enjoy the seeds once they figure out they are there. Very small black seeds- nutty taste.
