A very unique old heirloom with dark foliage and brilliant fire-red blossoms that are delicious in salads. It was popular in Victorian times. --- Note: When asked what the color is for this item. Baker Creek's Horticulturist stated: "to me they are the same..."orangy red"..."fire red" but I suspect the blooms tend to be more red and less orange than the photo. However a quick google search shows a range from red to red-orange."

What are the pros? Color contrast

What are the cons? none

Review:

What is really wonderful about this nasturtium is the blue-green leaves. The contrast it added when planted alongside my tomatoes was striking! I noticed that the flower color is a beautiful deep crimson in full sun, and partly shaded flowers are more of an orange-red. Really, really pretty contrast of cool tone leaves and warm tone flowers. As a bonus, aphids prefer these plants over my vegetables! I didn't have 100% germination, but wasn't upset about it. I was probably at 80-85%, but I didn't count to be sure.

What are the pros? WONDERFUL

What are the cons? NONE

Review:

IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE GERMINATING THE SEEDS-SOAK AND USE A NAIL FILE TO FILE ONE SIDE SO IT GETS TO THE CORE OF THE HARD SEED. THIS USUALLY WORKS FOR ME.

What are the pros? beautiful flowers, unique look

What are the cons? slower growth than expected

Review:

I actually loved the plants once they established themselves, however, that seemed a little doubtful at first. There was some sparce germination problems(only slightly)some were just much slower to take. The young plants took some time to establish themselves(seemed sensitive as seedlings) but did try to share some blooms early on, which had me anticipating the full bloom potential. On their behalf, we had an extremely harsh planting season that year: drought periods with heavy(none soil soaking) storms in between. so, under less than ideal conditions, they did go on to establish themselves and look beautiful the rest of the year. The color of the blooms were worth the wait and the leaf type make a striking contrast to the other companion plants. Id highly recommend this flower.

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? none

Review:

I see the reviews for poor germination but it looks like I got 100%. Simply stuck them in the ground right before a rain and they all came up a few days later. I can't wait to see them flower.

Review:

I am confused - description says "fire-red" but the photo shows pumpkin-orange flowers. Not ordering because don't know what really going to receive... recommend sellers address the discrepancy. Had to put a rating so just chose middle star, but haven't actually grown them yet.
