(Chrysanthemum parthenium) This herb produces pretty, daisy-like flowers and is used by many for migranes, arthritis, and as a digestive aid. Also used to repel insects. Very easy to grow.

What are the pros? Attractive flowers, tall plant

What are the cons? Mildly unpleasant scent

Review:

I have a little trouble with germination with feverfew, but once you have seedlings you will be set. The plant grows a little bit the first year, in fact my seedlings flowered in late fall. Then the next spring they grew immensely--I was surprised to see them reach about four feet. The plants were covered with small chamomile-like flowers. I had this plant in my herb garden but it is a bit big and I will transplant it elsewhere. I think it might prefer a somewhat drier and less fertile area as it was 'sloppy' with the tall stems flopping as the season progressed, much like cosmos or other plants will do in too-fertile or too-moist soil. I also found the scent of the plant to be a little odd, just slightly unpleasant. However this scent was only noticeable when brushing against, trimming or otherwise handling the plant. Feverfew would/will make a fabulous perennial plant for the back of a border or center of a flower garden. I haven't yet tried its medicinal properties.

Review:

These were a little tough to grow for me, only because the seeds are so tiny. These seedlings are so delicate and definitely do not like dampness once they germinate. Due to my own fault, many died. Kept them too damp and planted too many seeds too close together. I had 100% germination, but only 2 tiny seedlings made it. So I just randomly planted in the garden to see what would happen. The first year they didn't flower and weren't that big. But, to my surprise, they over-wintered. And this year, those two plants grew about 2-3ft wide and about 4ft tall each. Beautiful plants with little white and yellow flowers. Both plant and flower have wonderful fragrance. So all in all, these plants are amazing. Would definitely grow more, but make adjustments as stated above. Zone 5a.
