60 days. A unique, red leaf lettuce that is great for the new high-class markets. The color is intense crimson red and is slow to bolt. Introduced in 1988.

What are the pros? Looked like a nice variety

What are the cons? Poor germination

Review:

I sowed a row of Flame in my lettuce bed 2.5 - 3 weeks ago, and not a single seed has germinated yet. (No luck with Rossa di Trento, either.) My spinach, bok choy, arugula, and speckled trout back lettuce came up, so it's not user error. I just sowed another row in a different bed 5 days ago, and am hoping to have a better than 0% germination rate there.

What are the pros? Flavor, texture and color

What are the cons? Seed germination not great

Review:

I bought from Baker Creek. For some reason I had very little seed germination in the few packages I got. Those that did grow were great though--so 5 star for flavor, taste and texture on mature plants. Had the seed germination issue not been a problem I would have given it a 5 star rating all around. Growing in Western WA with amended clay soil--topsoil and organic farm manures. Maybe it doesn't like the clay soil as much as other varieties? Or the rain...we get plenty of that too.

Review:

it is blistering in Ohio and this lettuce is just now bolting. Really beautiful large leave that are very tasty. I grew this with gentilia lettuce and contrast of color and leaf size made great salads.

Review:

I love the color of this lettuce! I like to mix two kinds of lettuce, a green and a red for salad and this one produced prolifically and is very red.
