PRE-ORDER GARLIC BULBS WILL SHIP AFTER SEPTEMBER 1, 2015 (Hardneck) Very Rare. This Rocambole garlic came to South West with the early Spanish settlers in the mountain valleys of northern New Mexico. We found this garlic growing wild (naturalized) along the “acequia” (irrigation ditch) in our small village at 8,000 ft in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. In 2001, the postmistress in Chamisal told us that garlic had been growing there since her grandfather was a boy. We went to look in early summer and found it covering several thousand square feet. Today, its bulbs reach up to 3 inches.

What are the pros? Started out great! hardy

What are the cons? Does not like the heat

Review:

I planted these in planters and during the fall they grew great and healthy! But once the heat came in they stopped growing and turning brown. I had to finally put them in the shade but was still too late. I still have bulbs but they are very small. I am not going to blame this on the garlic. I blame it on the hot heat. we were in the 100s-114 degrees and I think the roots just got too warm. I bet this would do much better in just the soil next time. The smell and flavor is so much better then the super market garlics. I like it so much I am buying more and trying again but in soil this time! :)

Review:

I have lived in Las Vegas, New Mexico for 24 years. I have grown garlic before, but nothing like the Chamisal garlic i grew last year. This garlic is huge already 3ft. tall. My stalks are the size of a nickle. I have recently cut off the scapes so i am hoping that the taste will be great when i harvest in July. I am always looking for vegetables native to New Mexico. I will be ordering the Estonian garlic next. Please let me know if there are any other cultivars you have that are native to New Mexico.
