What are the pros? Pretty color

What are the cons? Bitter and very tough skin

Review:

These sprouted and grew very well. I was excited to try one and picked it too early - hard, bitter, very tough skin, and wasn't colorful at the time. Decided the problem was I hadn't waited long enough, so let the next group get very yellow. Got excited to try them again and sliced them up to have with a dip. No longer hard internally, still quite bitter, but the very tough skin was a big disappointment. It's not enjoyable to eat with it on. These didn't get any color until they were quite large, so I don't know how to avoid the too-large-cuc-bitterness and still have the skin turn color.

What are the pros? Impressive size and color

What are the cons? A few have bitter skin

Review:

I am growing these cucumbers vertically in a hoop house, trained up strings. These cukes fruit mostly on the side shoots, though I have found a few fruit on the main stem. These plants produce side shoots quite prolifically, so It shouldn't take many plants to cover a trellis. The plants coped well with my stingy watering regime, though 10-20% of my cukes had some bitterness in the skin, and this may have been due to water/heat stress. If in doubt, water heavily. Bitterness aside, these cukes are impressive specimens, with their golden skin and average weight of 600g.

What are the pros? Vigorous

What are the cons? Prickles

Review:

These are the first cucumbers I have tried to grow. They were easy to germinate and I planted out 2 in the garden. They managed to survive some blisteringly hot and dry weather with no ill effects. Once the hot, wet and humid weather arrived they took off. The trellis I put them on is woefully insufficient for their vigour and they are now spreading into other beds. They appear to be disease and pest free. The vines are covered in hundreds of flowers. The cucumbers themselves are very large and sturdy. And turn a lovely gold when ripe. However they are covered in fine black prickles which can make picking them a little awkward. I have learnt thought that These prickles are easily dealt with by rubbing them off with a cloth. The flavour is good and even the skin is not bitter, however it is slightly tough on the mature fruit so I tend to peel them for fresh use. This is not necessary if you are pickling them.

What are the pros? Easy, significant yields

What are the cons? Bitter

Review:

These are monster cukes which ripened from the sunny yellow in the product pic to a deep rustic orange. After making several batches of spiced pickles and eating in sour cream and dill salads,, I gave the extras to friends, set them out on the street for strangers, and still had more for the compost pile. I didn't expect such a bumper crop! Some became bitter, perhaps from the 100 temps here or from our watering schedule. They were still fun to grow and are absolutely beautiful, getting a lot of attention from people who wanted to know what they were.

What are the cons? None

Review:

Second year gardener here and have quite a few things from Baker's Creek growing :) These cucumbers took right off and have had no problems with them. They are a mild tasting cucumber and are very juicy. I've never seen such a juicy cuc before! My kids love them, they will be back next year!
