PRE-ORDER GARLIC BULBS WILL SHIP AFTER SEPTEMBER 1, 2016 (Hardneck) Mid-season. German Red is a full-bodied, strong and spicy rocambole garlic that reliably produces large, satiny white and purple heads. The easy-to-peel cloves are wrapped in fawn colored skins. A widely popular variety that sets the standard for true garlic flavor. Grows particularly well in colder regions of the country. (1/2 Pound Package - about 3 to 4 large bulbs)

What are the pros? Taste, Easy to grow

What are the cons? Doesn't keep like softneck

Review:

This was my first experiment with planting garlic, and I admit, I was skeptical when I planted my German Red cloves last October. I'm in northern MN, and we spend most of our winter near or below zero degrees F. How could these things survive my raised bed garden? I figured $15 was a cheap experiment if these didn't come up in the spring. But they did come up, and they came up crazy vigorous! Every clove popped up a stalk as soon as the ground thawed. By late June, every stalk had a scape on it (saut? them in butter and toss with pasta and a chopped tomato = a little bowl of heaven), and in early August I dug out 21 beautiful fat bulbs. Each bulb seems to have 8-10 cloves and the taste is fantastic: slightly peppery, definitely garlicky, but not overpowering. The neighbors were seriously impressed that I could plant garlic in the fall and make it live. Ha - plant it and forget it! So easy!

What are the pros? Easy, tasty and they flowered

What are the cons? quantity was small

Review:

This is my 1st year growing Garlic. I got these and the Inchelium. The cloves are large, spicy and smell wonderful. They were easy to grow. I did not plant them in the fall (I could not find them in my house, oops) Any way I got them in the ground in early spring and some of the cloves were too dried up. The interesting thing is, they flowered, The Inchelium did not. I am doing some research on that and will try to save the seeds from these and see what I can do. If I have any luck with the seeds I will post again. Just so you know. when I ordered these I got a lot less of the German garlics than I did of the inchelium. Understandable since you buy them by there weight and the inchelium are smaller so I got a bunch of those. I am glad I got the two varieties.
