Tree tomatoes were originally introduced to North Americans via growers who were producing the fruit in New Zealand. They are related to real tomatoes in the family Solonaceae. Commercially they were called Tomatillos. Tree tomatoes are originally from South America and they grow in the cooler regions of the american tropics. This particular landrace is very large deliciously flavored and sure to grow well in places where the weather is not too hot, but neither too cold. Tree tomatoes start producing in about 8-12 months.

A correction; commercially these have been called tamarillos, not tomatillos.
