Golden Ball Chrysanthemum

2 Reviews | Write a Review
Perennial--Equally appropriate to the herb- or flower garden! This highly ornamental form of feverfew boasts attractive bright yellow flowers all season long. The flower form is nearly spherical, made up of very closely packed petals. The plants are very compact, reaching to 18” tall and wide. The lemon-yellow blooms are produced non-stop until the weather turns really cold, and look so chipper with their backdrop of the textured gray-green foliage. Takes a fairly hot, dry location once established.

Hardy Good Cut Flower

What are the pros? Good Cut, Tidy Mounding Habit

What are the cons? Frangrance is strong

Seeds are small, but I started them inside under florescent lights and have had excellent germination the last two years. The first year growth is slow, but the second year growth has been good. In the high tunnel (unheated greenhouse), growth excelled and the plants bloomed in the spring, following a fall planting. Flowers have good vase life and are nice and cheery yellow. Fragrance of the plants are strong - but it is a chrysanthemum! Great landscape plant with a tidy, mounding habit.

Tough time

What are the pros? They grew

What are the cons? Small, slow

The seed from this plant is literally the size of dust particles, don't let it blow away! I got a fair amount of plants growing, they started off so slow and small that I had difficulty in telling them apart from weeds, but they did grow! They haven't done much in the tray and they haven't done much in the ground either. Its been months since I have first put the seed to tray, maybe it just needs a real long time to grow? I don't know, but at this rate my cactus plants are growing faster! I haven't given up on them yet, just be warned, this flower may be difficult to grow! One of the most difficult of any plant I've grown!
