Golden Bantam 12-Row Corn

Released in 1922 by the Clark Seed Company of Milford, Connecticut. Although developed from the original Golden Bantam, this is definitely an improved type—larger ears mean higher yields, and the golden yellow corn stays tender longer. Equally suitable for freezing and fresh eating, this variety was for decades the standard for home and market gardeners.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, delicious!

What are the cons? NONE

Review:

For my first time growing corn, I decided to try this variety, and I'm so glad I did. It was hardy and vigorous all through the drought in my area. Never even flinched in temps over 100, when almost everything else scalded and died. I kept the corn well watered via a soaker hose, and every couple of weeks I fed it with a mild fish emulsion solution. I was rewarded with a large harvest of big, full ears of corn in the late summer. I never had any problems with bugs or diseases. This corn is not a super sweet "dessert" variety, but it's sweet enough to not be bitter. It has a delicious, rich flavor. To tell when an ear should be picked, pierce a few kernels - if the juice inside is milky and watery, it's just right.

I have never had much luck growing good corn in my gardens. I tried this seed last year and had great results. The ears were very large and full. It was also very sweet and tender when harvested on time. I will definitely be planting this again.

What are the pros? Produced a lot of corn!

What are the cons? Nothing

Review:

I tried this corn last year when I could not find seed for my favorite corn. I was impressed with the yields; most stalks produced two rather large ears. It wasn't as sweet as I would have liked, but great for fresh eating nonetheless. My family and I enjoyed it very much!

Review:

FYI: this my first year gardening and I'm using the square foot gardening method. Didn't get seed planted till mid June partly due to constant rain that month. I've watered regularly. Plants look great-tall, dark green. I planted 40 seeds. It's been a couple weeks since it was supposed to be mature according to the package. Have only been able to harvest 2 dz ears. The others are way too small and I doubt I'll get any more. What I did pick had good color but was bland and tough. Won't be getting this seed again. Need a sweeter corn.
