85 days. Vigorous, compact vines produce green-fleshed 2-lb. melons at an incredible rate! This delicious sweet variety really was amazing last year. A true improvement in melons bred by Merl Neidens, a master of heritage gardening and plant selection. His varieties always receive rave reviews from our customers. Superb taste.

What are the pros? productive, dependable

What are the cons? ants like them too

Review:

This machine is always the most productive, dependable melon I grow. The flavor is good. It slips from the vine easily. We usually have summers blistering temperatures and infrequent rainfall in northeast Texas; however these melons tolerate these conditions well. We often give melons away we have so many of these.

What are the pros? Several fruit per vine

What are the cons? Flavor was a little bland

Review:

Germination wasn't 100%, but the vines grew well and produced several small to medium-sized fruit. I was slightly disappointed in the flavor. Now, to be fair, I had just tasted one of the best melons ever, in my opinion (Baker Creek's Oran). The Green Machine was a bit bland. Not to say it was bad, but not as sweet as many and not as full of that cantaloupe flavor. Just slightly washed out tasting . It was a little better after refrigeration, however. My family ate it without complaint, but it's not our first choice of melon. If you think other melons are way too sweet, this is the melon for you. It is sweet, but not overly so and has kind of an earthy aftertaste. Not bad, just different.

What are the pros? nothing to like, sadly

What are the cons? Never got a melon

Review:

I have tried this melon for three years now. I do not generally have a lot of luck with melons here, no matter how they are grown. So far, only Collective Farm Woman and Black Tail Mountain have produced anything at all. I figured a quick-producing melon would do the trick, but not this one. I have grown it along the ground with/without black plastic, in mounds, on trellises. Checked the pH, regulated water and fertilization. The closest it got to producing was one pitiful, deflated-balloon looking thing the size of a baby's fist. I am SOOOOOOoooooo disappointed! And I had two different seed packs of these, thinking the first one was a genetic dud. Vines grew well at the beginning, but slowed down both years. Bees got lots off the blossoms, apparently, but just that one melon!!

What are the pros? Easy to grow, easy to trellis

What are the cons? Powdery mildew

Review:

This is my second year growing this melon and it produces well in raised beds as well as the big garden. The melons got bigger in the raised bed and were trellised. However, they did get powdery mildew towards the very end of the growing season. The ones in the big garden were the size of a softball and perfect for breakfast or a snack. I will continue to grow this variety!

What are the pros? it grew

What are the cons? it didn't grow enough

Review:

I couldn't get this one to grow in my Cleveland OH garden. It remained small, and may be best suited for gardens located a bit further south.
